Superiority

The feeling of one being superior is something that can lead to a lot of disruption. What makes someone superior or inferior? Only human arrogance makes someone superior or inferior. No one is born superior, it is the society that drills such thoughts in our minds. Why is one gender considered superior? Why are certain races believed to be superior? Why are some castes thought of as superior? Why are the well-to-do superior? And there are endless questions. But do we actually realize how much we curse ourselves each day consciously or sub-consciously fighting the discrimination associated with one being superior or inferior? There is a lot to speak on it but there are these two things that I have been disturbed by lately.
The first is how during this lockdown the ones who are portrayed as having suffered the most are the men. How can we be blind to the fact that the ones working shoulder-to-shoulder with men all day long were the women who were all the time ready to serve not just the society but also their own families. The increase in the rate of domestic violence is something that cannot be ignored. Not even 20% of the total case are reported. And according to me there is a partial fault of the women as well since they don’t always stand up for their rights. They are more worried about the name of the family and so they just silently go through all the torture.
Secondly, the racial discrimination seen in USA is very disturbing. Does the skin colour actually matter so much? Does a person look better if he/ she is white? Will the skin colour actually decide if you are a good person or not? It is said that the first place where the existence of humans was found was Africa and the people of Africa themselves are dark raced and so actually the humans initially were dark raced and the skin colour of the people started to change according to the climatic condition.
It is time for us to introspect and see how many times we are told that we are superior or inferior because of some or the other factor – often something over which we have no control – like the family, religion, race, caste, gender, country, language, region, society, property, etc. that we are born into. Is it mere chance that determines whether we are superior or inferior?
What matters more – the tool or how the tool is used? Should our value be determined by where we are born or by how we conduct ourselves? We need to ask whether our belief is doing good or causing more harm.
Please share your thoughts as well. : )

Stuti, you have indeed expressed your thoughts meticulously. Well in this context I would also like to express my opinion that we can set ourselves free from the shackles of superiority complex by learning the simple yet profound art of appreciation. Lastly, we must always remember that people who look down on others never end up being looked up to.
ReplyDeletethank you Koshika and actually appreciating others is an art and the one who masters this art actually a very happy person : )
