Dust of Snow

By Siddhika Pahwa

‘Sometimes the smallest of the things can make your day a whole lot better’

In the poem, ‘Dust of Snow’, the poet Robert Frost tells us about a bad day in his life. But then, a crow shook some snow from a hemlock tree and it changed the poet's mood and saved his day. This small act of the crow made him feel happy again. He wants to convey that sometimes the simplest and the smallest act can change our perspective about life. The difference is how we approach these acts, whether we take it in a positive or a negative way. If we are open to it, then even something like the crow and the hemlock which are seen as negative, can bring about a positive influence.

Have you experienced a day when you felt very low and the smallest of the things brightened up your day? What was it? The laughter of a child? A little act of kindness? A change in perspective?

  1. Well said that sometimes even the smallest of things can brighten our day. My paints, colours, drawings and BTS songs can really bring a positive change in my ruined day.

  2. I agree! Talking to my parents - and listening to their childhood stories -helps me find something good in a not-so-good day.
